How can you make a difference?

To improve the global evidence base and support UNICEF’s advocacy, programming and policy development for the future, UNICEF Office of Strategy and Evidence – Innocenti (UNICEF Innocenti) has been conducting research on children’s use of digital technology for the past 10 years. The office continually contributes to global and national discussions and debates on a range of issues for children in the digital world including: the impact of technology on children’s mental health; privacy and data protection regulation; parenting in the digital age; online violence; technology-facilitated sexual exploitation and abuse; digital skills development; the impact of online gaming on children’s rights; and gaming and well-being.

The Digital Engagement & Protection (DEP) team at UNICEF Innocenti conducts primary and secondary research on children’s rights in digital environments, including online safety, digital participation, platform governance, digital literacy, AI and emerging technologies.

As the digital ecosystem evolves rapidly, there is increasing demand for clear, actionable, and accessible evidence to inform policymaking, programming, advocacy campaigns, internal knowledge strengthening and public discourse. The DEP team has access to and continuously produces qualitative and quantitative data across multiple thematic areas from many countries around the world; however, translating this evidence into synthesized, audience-tailored knowledge products requires dedicated capacity. This consultancy will strengthen the team’s ability to synthesize complex evidence and data to develop high-impact knowledge products, and ensure research meaningfully informs communications, advocacy, and policy engagement internally and externally.
