Duties and Responsibilities
To design and illustrate child-friendly documents of the mandate’s report to the Human Rights Council and UN General Assembly, of issues related to violence against children, and summarized versions in the forms of infographics to be used to raise awareness on matters related to VAC with children in different regions, and to disseminate the PoP principles in child friendly format. For the office of the SRSG-VAC children’s participation is a cross-cutting priority.
A key aspect of a culture of meaningful participation is the empowerment of children to end all forms of violence against children, and a critical aspect of empowerment to be actors of change is information and accessibility to decision-making spaces. Through collaborations with various stakeholders, including child-led networks and initiatives, the Office of the SRSG-VAC identifies ways to enhance its direct engagements with children in a more systematic way, including ‘giving back’ and being accountable to children.
In March 2022 and for the first time ever, the Special Representative briefed children on the report presented by the mandate to the Human Rights Council and opened up a space for children to put forward their questions and views. A child friendly version of the report was developed and disseminated widely with partners and with all registered participants of the event.
Since then, The Special Rrepresentative has consistently developed child friendly versions of all her report to both the Human Rights Council and UN General Assembly, whil also developing child friendly short documents aropound different forms of violence against children, and any other useful resource that will support children through their ongoing work on being part of the solutions to end all forms of violence against children.
Qualifications/special skills
Qualifications and Education:
Bachelor's degree in art, design, illustration, or related field. - 10 years of experiences in illustration.
Experience illustrating children’s books.
Experience working on development related issues, including working with protection entities.
Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural environment and establish harmonious and effective working relationships.
A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in illustration and design.
Experience in the field human rights.
Languages
Fluency in one of the working languages of the UN Secretariat, English or French, (both oral and written) is required; knowledge of the other is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
