Internal and external candidates will be considered for this vacancy. For the purposes of this vacancy, internal candidates are defined as staff members holding a regular, fixed-term or short-term graded or ungraded contract, including Junior Professional Officers (JPOs), staff on Special Leave Without Pay (SLWOP), UN Volunteers with at least twelve (12) months of continuous service in IOM, and staff members on secondment/loan released by the Organization, unless otherwise specified in their contract. Staff members holding a regular, fixed-term or short-term graded contract will not retain their contract type if appointed to an ungraded position.
Organizational Context and Scope
Working under the overall supervision of the Supply Chain Officer and the direct supervision of the Supply Chain Assistant – Fleet Management, the incumbent, will be responsible for the following duties. In particular, she/he will:
- Provide transportation for IOM staff as required.
- Ensure adequate level of fuel and minimum running conditions of the vehicle.
- Day to day maintenance and cleaning of the vehicle, checking oil, water, battery, tyre pressure and attendance to routine repairs.
- Delivering of letters / mail / packages on behalf of IOM as requested.
- Operate and maintain emergency communication equipment’s (VHF/UHF radios) in vehicle and ensure the accurate equipment and emergency supplies are always in the vehicle.
- Maintain vehicle logbook by daily recording vehicle movements, fuel consumption and mileage done. Alerting supervisors of any repairs done to vehicle.
- Behave properly with staff members and assists them in entering and leaving the vehicle. May assist with baggage handling and with umbrella in foul weather. (Note: In high risk assignments, the security driver is required to remain behind the wheel at all times, and others on the protection detail open doors, handle luggage and umbrellas, etc.).
- Obey all traffic laws and limits.
- Respond to medical emergencies occurring to passengers in route
- Keep a high degree of confidentiality and discreteness in discussions, which involves IOM and its officials.
- Perform any other duties that the supervisor may assign.
Education
- A minimum of advanced secondary level education is required and must possess a valid Heavy & Light Vehicle Driver’s License.
Experience
- Minimum five years relevant work experience; preferably in a humanitarian agency.
Languages
All IOM staff members in all categories are required to be fluent in one of the IOM's official languages (English, French, Spanish).
For this position, Fluency in English is required (oral and written).
Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
