OVERVIEW

UNESCO is seeking part-time language teachers for its language teaching programme. The teachers work under the supervision of the Learning & Development team, Learning, Performance and Development Unit, within the Bureau of Human Resources Management. The language teaching programme improves the language abilities of staff and other participants and promotes linguistic balance and multilingualism within UNESCO through its offer of language courses.

UNESCO maintains a pool of part-time language teachers to meet the on-going and ad-hoc needs of language teaching, and is seeking teachers for an in-person beginners' course of three hours per week from October to December 2026.

ASSIGNMENTS

The part-time language teachers help the participants of the language programme to develop more effective communication skills. These duties include the following:

Teaching Arabic beginners courses in-person. Language courses should cover production and receptive language skills.

  • Preparing course descriptions, programmes, classes and learning materials in accordance with the level and objectives of the group.
  • Correcting assignments/homework as applicable and providing individualized feedback and advice on participants’ progress.
  • Carrying out the administrative duties directly related to the language teaching, such as maintaining students’ attendance and communicating with students as needed.

UNESCO is currently seeking teachers for a three month assignment from October to December 2026. Other suitably qualififed and experienced applicants will also be placed in a pool of teachers for possible future opportunities.

EDUCATION

Training and qualifications in second or foreign language teaching is highly desirable.

A qualification from a higher education institute in language area studies, language teaching, applied linguistics, communication or education/pedagogy or related area is preferred.

Qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the formal qualifications.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Experience in teaching Arabic to adult learners in a professional context is preferred.
