Org. Setting and Reporting

The temporary position is located within the United Nations Support Office in Haiti (UNSOH). Pursuant to Security Council resolution 2793 (2025), UNSOH has been mandated to provide support; primarily to the Gang Suppression Force (GSF), the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH), the Haitian National Police (HNP), and the Haitian Armed Forces in the context of any joint operations with the GSF. Additionally, UNSOH is tasked with delivering technical assistance to the Organization of American States (OAS).

The incumbent at this level undertakes a wide range of responsibilities in Operations and Resource Management including but not limited advising and applying the Organization’s administrative and financial rules and regulations as well as internal procedures and processes related to human resources and general administration planning and management, inter-agency and host country authorities coordination and liaison. The temporary position is based in Santo Domingo and is located in the Office of the Chief Operations and Resource Management.

The incumbent will report to the Chief Operations and Resource Management or her/his designate.

Responsibilities

Within assigned authority, the Associate Coordination Officer will provide assistance to the overall policy and UNCT/ inter-agency coordination functions of UNSOH/CORM and will be responsible for the following specific duties:  As a member of the operations team, assist with the preparation of briefing material, talking points, and other substantive documents for the Head of Entity and Director of Mission Support for meetings and high level visits and missions

ensure submission of material to within established deadlines and adhering to established quality standards and required protocols.  Assist with the preparation of talking points and background information, as required, in coordination with all stakeholders.  Monitor incoming correspondence and manage the appropriate action in coordination with relevant UNSOH offices.  Draft and review correspondence, including Note Verbales (in English and Spanish)  Assist in facilitating UNSOH's contribution to the UN System's coordination efforts in substantive and administrative areas of relevance to UNSOH, BINUH and GSF, as required.  Assist in reviewing submissions to reports of the Secretary-General or other high-level officials or UN bodies through UNSOH leadership.  Assist in reviewing internal policy and programmatic documents and provide contributions to support decision making.  Attend meetings on behalf of the entity (as required) with the Host Government authorities, draft and review minutes, monitor and facilitate follow-up actions.  Assist in providing policy support for UNCT, intergovernmental meetings and Member States groupings.  Contribute to the implementation of the inter-regional approach to drug control and crime prevention, through participation in interdivisional meetings and keeping the Chief of the Office abreast of new developments.  Contribute to addressing key institutional challenges to smooth and accountable delivery of programmes ensuring delivery with accountability

assist in supporting institutional change processes (such as enterprise risk management and others).  Keep abreast of policy issues related to UNSOH mandate areas as well as strategic and operational developments at UN HQs level and within UNSOH to ensure informed contributions to the policy coordination function.  Perform records management activities related to all policy and strategic management related matters.  Support administrative tasks (e.g. SAP (Umoja), budgetary and financial functions, etc.)  Perform other work-related tasks as assigned.

Education

An advanced university degree (Master’s or Doctorate degree, or equivalent) preferably in business administration, management, economics or related fields is required. A first-level degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in the specified fields of studies with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience

A minimum of two years of relevant progressively responsible professional experience in policy analysis and coordination or related area is required. Work experience in the office of a high-level senior official is desirable. Work experience within the United Nations system or similar international organizations is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this job opening, English and Spanish are required. Special Notice

This temporary job opening is available for three months and is being advertised for advance planning purposes pending formal approval of the relevant funding and staffing structures. An appointment may be terminated, or post level adjusted in accordance with the Staff Rules for such reasons as abolition of post or reduction of staff or committee funding approvals, for example in the event that the funding for the post is not approved or the mandate of the mission is not extended. The selected candidate will be expected to temporarily deploy for three months.

If the selected candidate is a staff member from the United Nations Secretariat, the selection will be administered as a temporary assignment. While this temporary assignment may provide the successful applicant with an opportunity to gain new work experience, the selection for this position is for a limited period and has no bearing on the future incumbency of the post.
