Under the overall guidance of the Chief of Advocacy and Communications and the direct supervision of the Advocacy and Communications Specialist, the Communication Officer supports the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of UNICEF Myanmar’s advocacy and communication work. The role has a particular focus on digital platforms, newsletters, campaigns, content production, media engagement and communication monitoring, helping translate programme results and humanitarian priorities into timely, accurate, ethical and engaging content for national, regional and global audiences.

Key responsibilities include
- Manage UNICEF Myanmar’s social media platforms, including editorial planning, scheduling and publishing content, coordinating clearances and ensuring timely and accurate updates.
- Create and adapt engaging content for social media, the UNICEF Myanmar website, newsletters and campaigns, including text, graphics, photographs, video and other multimedia formats.
- Develop human interest stories from programme and field activities, including interviews and content gathering, in line with UNICEF child safeguarding, informed consent, dignity and ethical storytelling standards.
- Monitor and analyse social media and digital communication results, including reach, engagement, audience growth, content performance and social listening, and use the findings to improve communication effectiveness.
- Support media engagement, campaigns, field communications and photo/video production while ensuring all content meets UNICEF editorial, brand and quality standards.
Minimum requirements
Desirables
- Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts is desirable.
- Field-based communication experience, including collecting stories, photos, video and other content from programme locations is an asset.
- Experience in human interest storytelling and the application of ethical storytelling principles in communication work is desirable.
- Work experience with a United Nations organization is desirable.

UNICEF appointments are subject to medical clearance. Issuance of a visa by the host country of the duty station is required for IP positions and will be facilitated by UNICEF. Appointments are conditional on the selected candidates’ willingness to comply with current or future vaccination requirements, should UNICEF mandate it for personnel. Failure to comply with such requirements, where applicable and without a duly approved medical exemption from the relevant UN authority, will result in the cancellation of the selection or may lead to other administrative measures, including separation from service
