Duties and Responsibilities
Background and Objective The Arab States region continues to face protracted, complex, and interconnected crises rooted in political instability, humanitarian emergencies, security concerns, economic fragility, and social pressures. Cross-border stressors such as climate change, shifting energy dynamics, and population movements further compound these challenges, requiring strong synergies across humanitarian, development, political, and security actors.
Following the initial DCO–OCHA lessons learned exercise on regional collaboration in the Arab States, a second round of consultations will be undertaken to assess how support to RCs and regional collaboration has evolved in light of renewed regional escalations. Since the completion of the initial exercise, the regional context has continued to evolve, generating new coordination demands and opportunities for strengthened collaboration across pillars of UN work.
This follow-up exercise seeks to capture key developments since January 2026, identify emerging lessons, and inform ongoing discussions on regional support mechanisms. This collaboration aligns with the UN80 Initiative and UN 2.0 priorities, which emphasize system-wide coherence, foresight, and innovation. The exercise will distill insights from evolving regional engagement and recommend the way forward. Consultations will engage selected Secretariat offices, Resident Coordinators and UN Agencies, Funds and Programs at the regional level.
To ensure an objective and structured process, a facilitator will be engaged to design and conduct targeted consultations, synthesize findings, and prepare a concise update note reflecting lessons learned and recommendations for future action.
