Duties and Responsibilities
The Intern’s duties may include but not limited to:
1. Support the implementation of the ARMU digitization project and related digital preservation initiatives.
2. Assist in preparing physical records for digitization through sorting, arrangement, labelling, inventorying, and condition assessment.
3. Assist with scanning and digitization activities following established quality standards and procedures
4. Perform image quality review, completeness checks, and quality assurance of digitized records.
5. Assist in OCR processing and text verification of digitized materials.
6. Organize and manage digital files in accordance with ARMU‘s file naming conventions, folder structures, and version-control procedures.
7. Assist in identifying duplicates, missing documents, metadata inconsistencies, and filing errors.
8. Assists in preparing background documentation, drafting correspondence, reports and presentations.
9. Participates in meetings and seminars as necessary and take notes, draft summary reports, minutes and assessment reports for presentation and monitors follow-up.
10. Support to other activities and projects, with the possibility to propose own ideas and initiatives.
11. Perform other activities and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications/special skills
Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or be in the final academic year of/or completed a first university degree programme or equivalent.
Pursuing or have pursued a degree in Human Resource Management or Administration, Information Management, Digital Humanities, Information Technology, Communications, Media Studies, or related fields.
Be computer literate in standard software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), and demonstrate the ability to learn and use digital records management and archival information systems.
Good understanding of document digitization workflows, including scanning, image quality control, OCR processing, file formats, and digital file management.
Have a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
Demonstrated ability to interact successfully with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. It is required that applicant must be in the final year of a first university degree (Bachelor or equivalent) or Master’s Programme or equivalent, or has completed a Bachelor’s or a Master's Programme. If you meet the above criteria, please indicate and attach proof to the application. Please note that you will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
Intern Specific text
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization. Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
