Project Context and Scope
This is the position be required to support the IOM Data and Research Team towards the successful implementation of IOM Data and research operations - related projects in Ethiopia.
Organizational Department / Unit to which the Consultant is contributing
Under the overall supervision of the Programme Manager of Data and Research unit and under direct supervision of Senior Project Associate (DRU-Operations) and Field Project Associate; the successful candidate will perform the following functions. They will identify the source of information/ key informants to collects relevant information and ensure the quality of information collected systematically verify and correct the questionnaire at the end of the interview. The incumbent will assess the situation at high mobility areas and FMPs through direct observation and triangulate the information to facilitate analysis.
Tasks to be performed under this contract
- Identify reliable sources of information/key informants to collect relevant information.Conduct DTM/FM assessment at observation points of flow monitoring points (FMPs), according to the operation planning led by the DRU Manager.Assess the situation at high mobility areas (at observation points) and FMPs through direct observation, counting, screener and survey and triangulate the information to facilitate analysis.Ensure the quality of the information collected and systematically verify and correct the questionnaire/form at the end of the interview.Collect GPS coordinates of each observation point on flow monitoring points.Liaise with various humanitarian and governmental partners in the field.Report daily on the activities conducted and the realities/issues encountered to the DTM/FM Team Leader and make relevant recommendations.Respect IOM’s Data Protection Principles.Perform other duties as they might be assigned.
Education
- Minimum BA Degree in Information Management System, Statistics, Geography, social science, Development study, Humanities and other related field of study with one year of relevant experience.
Experience
- Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, United Nations agencies and non-governmental organizations.
- Experience in working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking and other vulnerable groups; and,
- Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.
- Knowledge of Geographic Positioning System (GPS) tools.
- Experience working at the community and individual level in rural and remote areas of Ethiopia.
- Minimum of one year experience working in field level data collection, research, community-based response approaches etc.
- Ability to transfer knowledge and skills on data collection, processing, and analysis.
- Knowledge of Open Data Kit (ODK) and Kobo technology.
- Computer literacy required: MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Access)
- Experience in recognized institutions on data collection in Ethiopia is an advantage. NGO/INGO experience is a plus.
- Very good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be a national of Ethiopia
