In Cameroon, UNICEF supports the Government in strengthening equitable access to quality education and protective learning environments for children and adolescents, particularly the most vulnerable and marginalized populations affected by poverty, displacement, emergencies, exclusion, and protection risks.
The Maroua Field Office operates in the Cameroon’s Far North region in this fragile and volatile context exacerbated by climate shocks. In the region, UNICEF has the comparative advantage of co-leading the Education Cluster in the region in a humanitarian transition context. As such the Education section supports central and decentralized systems of education to improve the quality of learning and climate resilient learning environment, particularly girls and boys in hard-to-reach zones affected by poverty, exclusion, and emergencies.
How can you make a difference?
Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Chief Field Office, you will provide professional technical, operational, and administrative assistance throughout the education programming cycle. You will ensure that education interventions are integrated with WASH, child protection, social protection, and other programmes within the field office portfolio; are adaptive to emergencies and climate risks; and are inclusive, prioritizing girls, displaced children, and children living with disabilities. You will also support data analysis, progress reporting, and ensure that education interventions are aligned with programme goals and objectives.
Duties and responsibilities
- Support education programme planning, situation analysis, and results-based design using relevant data and evidence.
- Contribute to programme implementation, monitoring, reporting, and follow-up to ensure timely delivery of results.
- Coordinate with UNICEF colleagues, government counterparts, implementing partners, UN agencies, donors, and other stakeholders.
- Monitor the use of programme resources and support compliance with UNICEF procedures, donor commitments, and accountability standards.
- Identify implementation challenges, propose solutions, and document lessons learned for improved programme performance.
- Provide technical and operational guidance to partners on UNICEF education policies, strategies, standards, and best practices.
- Support field visits, programme reviews, reporting, and evidence-based decision-making, including in hard-to-reach areas.
- Strengthen partnerships, advocacy, and resource mobilization for inclusive, climate-resilient, and emergency-responsive education.
- Promote innovation, knowledge management, capacity building, and sustainable learning outcomes for children and adolescents.

- Language: Knowledge of another official UN language (English, Arabic, Chinese, Russian or Spanish) is an asset.
- Background/familiarity with emergency is considered as an asset.
- Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts.

UNICEF appointments are subject to medical clearance. Issuance of a visa by the host country of the duty station is required for IP positions and will be facilitated by UNICEF. Appointments are conditional on the selected candidates willingness to comply with current or future vaccination requirements, should UNICEF mandate it for personnel. Failure to comply with such requirements, where applicable and without a duly approved medical exemption from the relevant UN authority, will result in the cancellation of the selection or may lead to other administrative measures, including separation from service.

Government employees who are considered for employment with UNICEF are normally required to resign from their government positions before taking up an assignment with UNICEF. The conditions of a temporary assignment, including relocation entitlements, will depend on the status of the staff member's original appointment and may be limited in accordance with applicable UNICEF policies, procedures, and practices in force.

Visa residence requirements: i.e. UNICEF shall not facilitate the issuance of a visa and working authorization for candidates under consideration for positions at the national officer and general service category.
