How can you make a difference?
Under the supervision of the Education Specialist, the Education Officer provides high-quality technical assistance, coordination and innovation support to the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education (MoPME) and the Ministry of Education (MoE) and their implementing agencies including the Directorate of Primary Education (DPE), the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE), National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) to initiate, advance and sustain foundational and secondary education reforms, digital and cyber safety education, and girls' engagement in STEAM during the one-year absence of the substantive post-holder on approved education leave. The Education Officer will play a catalytic role in supporting the continued rollout of the Learning Enhancement Strategy (LES) Science pedagogy, Micro Skills programming, and the National Student Assessment (Mathematics), while leading the conceptualization, facilitation and technical coordination of Cyber Safety, AI, Green Skills and STEAM initiatives for students and teachers. The assignment aims to safeguard continuity of commitments already made with Government counterparts and development partners, ensure ongoing programme deliverables and donor reporting obligations are met without disruption, and maintain the pace of implementation research and evidence generation underway.
The role will further maintain donor and partner management responsibilities including with Grameenphone, Skills for Girls, the French National Commission (French NatCom) and NCTB and associated HACT assurance and compliance processes, to preserve alignment with UNICEF standards and national priorities. By bridging technical expertise, coordination and partnership management, the Temporary Appointee will ensure continuity of the Education Section's innovation, technology and girls' education portfolio, so that ongoing initiatives continue to benefit adolescent learners, especially girls and the most vulnerable benefit from improved learning opportunities in Bangladesh.

Minimum requirements
Desirables
- Language: Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language will be an asset.
- Demonstrated experience working with government education authorities and supporting government-led reforms, multi-stakeholder coordination, and institutional strengthening is desired. Strong coordination, facilitation, stakeholder engagement, and partnership management skills are asset, with the ability to work effectively across government, development partners, academia, and civil society organizations. Excellent analytical, communication, report-writing, presentation, and interpersonal skills would be advantage.
- Knowledge of and/or experience in digital learning, cyber safety, artificial intelligence (AI) in education, STEAM education, and education technology ecosystems are desired. Experience in teacher professional development, including the design and delivery of teacher training and Training of Trainers (ToT) programmes is desired. Experience in evidence generation, implementation research, monitoring and evaluation, knowledge management, and the application of evidence to inform policy and programme decision-making is desired. Experience supporting initiatives related to girls' education, gender-responsive approaches, future-ready skills, STEAM engagement, or education technology is desired. Experience coordinating large-scale education, digital learning, or behaviour change initiatives is desired. Previous experience working with the United Nations system, international development organizations, or development partner-supported programmes is an asset. Familiarity with UNICEF's Harmonized Approach to Cash Transfers (HACT) framework and partnership management processes is an asset.

UNICEF appointments are subject to medical clearance. Issuance of a visa by the host country of the duty station is required for IP positions and will be facilitated by UNICEF. Appointments are conditional on the selected candidates willingness to comply with current or future vaccination requirements, should UNICEF mandate it for personnel. Failure to comply with such requirements, where applicable and without a duly approved medical exemption from the relevant UN authority, will result in the cancellation of the selection or may lead to other administrative measures, including separation from service.
