Organizational Context and Scope
IOM has been present in Myanmar since 2005 and is the leading intergovernmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental, and non-governmental partners. IOM works to help ensure the orderly and humane management of migration, to promote international cooperation on migration issues, to assist in the search for practical solutions to migration problems, and to provide humanitarian assistance to migrants in need, including refugees, Internally Displaced People (IDP), victims of trafficking, stranded migrants, and other vulnerable migrants. As a result of the multifaceted crises faced in Myanmar in 2021, emergency and humanitarian needs have been increasing across the country. There has been an identified need for better data on population mobility, displacement, and multisectoral needs to support the humanitarian response. As such, IOM aims to support this effort through its Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) programme.
