Terms of Reference
The ideal candidate will be a recent graduate, with a commitment to refugee issues and a desire to develop their skills and experience in donor relations, fundraising and communications. All candidates should be computer literate, as well as have the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality at all times. Good interpersonal skills, flexibility and attention to detail are essential.
We are seeking a dynamic and proactive team player with a strong interest in partnerships, CSR, media, protection, policy and refugee and displacement issues to complete a six-months internship with UNHCR Kuwait.
You will work closely with the private sector partnerships and external relations teams. Liaising with UNHCR’s wider networks, you will support the advocacy and coordination efforts with Governmental and private entities, while assessing UNHCR’s image and positioning as a leading humanitarian agency. The ideal candidate will take part in achieving UNHCR’s strategic ambitions; contributing to the protection of people forced to flee while achieving the set local strategic priorities for UNHCR Kuwait.
Draft routine correspondence, reports, briefing notes, background documents, and minutes.
Collect, register, and maintain information on government developments with impact on UNHCR operations.
Assist in preparation and facilitation of high-level missions, workshops, and government meetings.
Coordinate preparations for strategic dialogues, high-level engagement, and senior visits.
Support internal coordination by managing information flow and identifying priority matters.
Ensure timely communication with government authorities, UNCT, and external partners.
Contribute to the UN Strategic Cooperation Framework once signed, including communication group participation.
Contribute to the production of information materials for public awareness campaigns and for the preparation of in-house bulletins, newsletters and information kits by contributing to articles, reports and other information gathered from various sources.
Regularly monitor media and local situation regarding UNHCR.
Coordinate communication and cooperate with other UN agencies as part of the joint UN communication group.
Organize and prioritize tasks independently.
In order to be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:
Be either a recent graduate (having completed their studies within two years of
applying) or a current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a
university or higher education facility accredited by IAU/UNESCO; and in the fields of
media, communications, politics, international relations, development studies, law, business or other relevant disciplines are encouraged to apply.
Strong verbal communication and writing skills in English and Arabic.
Strong computer skills (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, graphic design is
preferred).
Must have completed at least two years in university or a fresh graduate (no more than
one year of completion of degree).
Fluency in English and Arabic is mandatory
Location: The successful candidate will be based with the team in Kuwait.
Arrangements for travel, including travel arrangements to and from the location where the internship will be carried out, are the responsibilities of interns.
Allowance: monthly allowance will be provided, as per UNHCR policy.
NOTE: An individual whose father, mother, son, daughter, brother or sister is a staff
member of UNHCR, including a Temporary Appointment holder or a member of the Affiliate Workforce, is not eligible for an internship.
