Result of Service

This individual contractual service will contribute to progress, addressing gaps and challenges in responding to and preventing sexual exploitation and abuse.

Duties and Responsibilities

This position is located in the Office of the Special Coordinator on improving the United Nations response to sexual exploitation and abuse (OSCSEA). This Office supports the ongoing efforts of the Secretary-General and the leadership of United Nations offices, departments, funds, and programmes along with other Implementing Partners, to strengthen the response to sexual exploitation and abuse in peacekeeping, humanitarian, development and human rights sectors. The incumbent reports to the Special Assistant / Political Affairs Officer. The Individual Contractor will perform the following duties:

Supports operations in the Office of the Special Coordinator, including substantive and logistical arrangements for official missions and other activities undertaken by the Special Coordinator.

Supports preparation for the Special Coordinator’s speaking engagements, including review of briefing materials.

Contributes to the development of the updated system-wide Strategy on Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) and other PSEA projects and processes, including through research and coordination, as required.

Assists in monitoring progress and advancing efforts in assigned areas, including by collecting and analyzing materials and coordinating follow-up across multiple sources and stakeholders.

Provides logistical, substantive, and/or facilitation support to meetings, such as the SEA Working Group, Brown Bag and the High-Level Steering Group on PSEA.

Coordinates information-sharing and knowledge-exchange platforms and supports Office correspondence.

Supports OSCSEA's internal and external information sharing on PSEA matters across peacekeeping, humanitarian and development settings.

Contributes to the Office's resource mobilization efforts, coordinating donor reporting, and preparing budget narrative reports/proposals.

Supports other tasks, as required.

Qualifications/special skills

A minimum of 3 years of experience in the area of peace and security, humanitarian affairs and/or political affairs, gender-based violence, sexual exploitation and abuse, development studies or related fields is required.

A minimum of 2 years of experience working in the front office of a senior official is required.

Experience supporting written correspondence and scheduling with a diverse group of stakeholders is desirable.

Experience in drafting reports is desirable.

Languages

Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.

Additional Information

Supports projects intersecting with OSCSEA’s front office operations, programmatic work and external relations.

Contributes to the system-wide PSEA strategy development and other Office’s key deliverables.

Assists with Office correspondence and information-sharing processes.

Facilitates and/or supports meetings across various entities and produces and/or reviews summaries, talking points, and key messages for internal and external audiences, as required.
