Duties and Responsibilities

Daily responsibilities of the intern will depend on the individual's background and may include, but are not limited to:

Assisting in responding to help-desk requests and providing initial technical support to users.

Supporting the configuration and preparation of ICT equipment for staff use.

Supporting the monitoring and control of IT-related supplies, including printers and consumables.

Assisting in the installation and update of authorized software, in accordance with Office policies and guidelines.

Providing basic user support for institutional technological tools and platforms.

Supporting ICT activities within the scope of authorized access and in coordination with the designated IT focal point, in line with Office policies and system permissions.

Supporting the organization, updating and reconciliation of the Office’s IT equipment inventory.

Assisting in the preparation of records related to IT assets, including handover and reception documentation.

Assisting in the compilation of statistics and reports related to IT services, including help-desk performance and usage trends and to IT operations, as required

Assisting in basic preventive maintenance activities for office equipment.

Performing other duties as requested by the supervisor, as appropriate.

Qualifications/special skills

Academic Qualifications: Applicants must meet the following requirements: Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). Academic background in information technology, systems engineering or related fields is desirable Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. We are looking for candidates who are reliable, service-oriented, and demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and the ability to provide user support in a professional manner.

Ability to troubleshoot basic technical issues, support users, and handle ICT equipment is desirable. Familiarity with common office software (like Office 365), operating systems, and institutional tools is an asset.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written Spanish is required for the internship. Knowledge of English is an advantage.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization. Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
