Duties and Responsibilities
This position is located in the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Rio de Janeiro, within the Information Centres Service (ICS) of the Outreach Division (CCOD) of the Department of Global Communications (DGC). The UNIC is part of the global network of United Nations Information Centres (UNICs), and UNIC Rio de Janeiro is the principal source of information about the United Nations system in Brazil.
It is responsible for promoting public understanding and support for the aims and activities of the United Nations by communicating the work of the UN to a local audience in local languages; engaging local and regional partners; and, overall, bringing the United Nations closer to the peoples it serves. The incumbents are under the direct supervision of the Digital Communications Assistant and Partnerships Assistant and overall supervision of the Director. Duties may include, but are not limited to: Supporting UN Brazil digital impact strategy implementation:
Assist in the development of engaging digital assets for the UN Brazil (@onubrasil) social media accounts, including short videos, carrousels and cards.
Assist in the production of short video content for UN Brazil social media accounts, with a particular focus on TikTok, including by preparing and embedding subtitles in English and Portuguese.
Assist in planning interviews with civil society stakeholders and UN partners to produce human-based stories and videos for the UN Brazil website and social media channels.
Assist in the development of digital advocacy campaigns covering UN priorities, such as climate change, human rights, multilateralism, youth and information integrity, including the production of digital assets, drafting copies for social media posts and helping organize concept notes and schedules.
Assist in research on emerging opportunities to increase UN Brazil’s impact on digital platforms.
Assist in the translation of speeches, press releases and articles (English and Portuguese) for the UN Brazil website (https://brasil.un.org/pt-br). Supporting events management and organization:
Assist in UNIC Rio’s 80th Anniversary Campaign, from planning to implementation, with a focus on both digital impact and events and partnerships across the country.
Assist in photo exhibitions about the UN’s 81st Anniversary in Rio de Janeiro, including curating audio-visual content and supporting the identification of partners and funders.
Assist in organizing UNIC Rio regular events, such as press conferences and public outreach activities.
Assist in outreach efforts with partners and the UN System in Brazil.
Assist in mapping potential partners and sponsors in media and civil society.
Assist in updating and expanding existing mailing lists.
Assist in supporting relationships with suppliers. Daily responsibilities will depend on the needs of UNIC Rio and will take into account current and evolving priorities and global/local events. The Interns must cover full-time working hours, for 6 months. The internship is UNPAID and full time. Interns work five days a week (35 hours) in which one day of the week is remote. Part-time hours, 9:00h to 13:00h, or 13:00h to 17:00h.
Qualifications/special skills
Please note that to qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
a. Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or,
b. Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (bachelor's level or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria?

Applicants must also: Be computer literate in standard software applications. Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter. Have demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Have experience in using basic graphic design tools, such as Canva, and in producing content for digital platforms. Have working knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams. The ability to draft Press Releases and/or social media posts is desirable.
Languages
English and French are working languages of the UN Secretariat. For this position, fluency in oral and written Portuguese and intermediate level of English are required. Knowledge of other official languages of the United Nations Secretariat is desirable.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
