International Consultant on early (child) marriages in Roma communities research

Result of Service

The Consultant will conduct research aimed at gaining a deeper understanding of the prevalence, causes, perceptions and consequences of early and child marriage within Roma communities in Moldova. He/she will develop the research methodology and tools and provide technical expertise throughout the analysis, interpretation and presentation of the research findings. The methodology should apply a human rights-based approach, be gender-responsive and culturally sensitive and include appropriate safeguards for engaging children and vulnerable participants. The Consultant will work under the supervision of the Human Rights Officer and overall guidance of the Head of Office.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the present Terms of Reference and guided by the international human rights standards the Consultant will undertake the following tasks:

1. Development of Research Methodology by outlining: research objectives and questions; conceptual framework; data sources; sampling strategy and sample size; target groups; geographical scope; data collection methods; data protection, confidentiality and safeguarding measures; ethical safeguards and procedures; study limitations and assumptions; risks and mitigation measures; data analysis plan, including approaches to analysing the qualitative and quantitative data, as applicable; quality assurance measures; timeline.

2. Development of Research Tools by developing: questionnaires (individual interviews/focus group discussions/key-informant interviews (KII)/other methods); interview guides for individual interviews, focus group discussions, KII, etc.; consent forms and information sheets.

3. Validation and Finalization of Methodology and Tools: present the methodology to the project team and relevant stakeholders; revise documents based on feedback; submit final methodology package.

4. Analysis, Presentation and Dissemination of Findings: review and provide inputs on the analysis and interpretation of quantitative and qualitative data collected through the research; review draft analytical products and provide recommendations for improvement; present the research methodology and key methodological considerations during a public presentation of the research findings.

Qualifications/special skills

First degree in sociology, research methodology, or social sciences, anthropology, public policy, human rights, or a related field.

At least 3 years of professional experience in sociology, social research, research methodology, human rights, or related field;

Proven experience in developing methodologies and data collection tools, as well as in conducting research into early child marriage.

Experience in qualitative research methods.

Proven experience of working with Roma communities

Ability to analyze and interpret research findings and formulate evidence-based recommendations.

Languages

Fluency in English.
