TERMS OF REFERENCE
The purpose of this assignment is to provide technical support to UNICEF Zimbabwe Country Office (ZCO) in contextualizing and supporting the roll-out of the UPSHIFT methodology to strengthen entrepreneurship and livelihoods among Youth Community Health Workers (YCHWs). The assignment aims to contribute to the creation of an enterprising cadre of YCHWs who are capable of innovating and developing sustainable income-generating ventures including but not limited health-related solutions where applicable, to enhance motivation, retention, and performance in community health work, particularly in the context of limited or no government support.
Education
• A Master’s /Advanced degree in Social Innovation, Business Development, Entrepreneurship or related field
Work Experience
• Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience in youth empowerment, social innovation, entrepreneurship development, skills development, or livelihoods programming.
• Demonstrated experience in the adaptation and implementation of the UPSHIFT methodology or comparable youth social innovation and human-centred design (HCD) approaches.
• Proven track record in designing and delivering Training of Trainers (ToT) programmes and building the capacity of government, civil society, and youth-led organizations.
• Experience supporting the development of entrepreneurship, employability, and income-generation initiatives for adolescents and young people, particularly in low-resource settings.
• Experience working with UN agencies, governments, development partners, or international NGOs is highly desirable.
Language Requirements
• English language is mandatory, familiarity with any local languages (Shona/Ndebele) is an asset
Knowledge/Expertise/Skills
• Strong expertise in youth social innovation, entrepreneurship, human-centred design (HCD), and experiential learning methodologies.
• Demonstrated ability to adapt global learning tools and curricula to local contexts and develop high-quality facilitator and participant training materials.
• Understanding of community health systems and the role of Community Health Workers in strengthening primary health care is desirable.
• Strong facilitation, coaching, mentoring, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively with government, development partners, civil society, and young people.
• Excellent analytical, report-writing, and communication skills in English.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and deliver high-quality outputs with minimal supervision
Desirables
• Experience in Sub-Saharan Africa, and familiarity with Zimbabwe or similar contexts, will be an added advantage
