BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DIVISION

The Office of Internal Audit (OIGA) is part of the Office of the Inspector General (OIG).
OIGA’s mission and role is to provide WFP stakeholders with independent and objective assurance and advisory services designed to address the main risks to WFP operations and help WFP achieve its goals through improvements to the effectiveness of its governance, risk management and controls.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direct supervision of the Senior Professional Practices and Innovation Officer, the incumbent will perform the following duties:
  • Assist in extracting, cleaning, validating, and preparing datasets from corporate systems and other relevant sources.
  • Conduct exploratory data analysis to identify trends, patterns, anomalies, and risk indicators.
  • Support the application of analytics to risk assessment, planning, monitoring, and reporting activities.
  • Support the development, enhancement, and maintenance of dashboards and visualizations using Tableau or excel.
  • Support pilot initiatives involving automation, artificial intelligence, or analytics innovation, as applicable.
  • Assist in documenting analytical methodologies, assumptions, and results.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
  • Be a recent graduate from an undergraduate or graduate programme (within six months prior to the application to the internship programme) and have attended classes in the last 12 months of enrolment in the university.
  • Field of study in data science, computer science, information technology, web development, statistics, engineering, or another closely related field is required.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Knowledge of Python is required.
  • Knowledge of data visualization tools, including Tableau, is required.
  • Understanding of basic data analytics and statistical concepts is required.
  • Familiarity with artificial intelligence or machine learning concepts is desirable.
  • Computer literacy in standard software applications is required.

WORKING LANGUAGES

  • Excellent written and spoken English is required (proficiency/level C).

SUPERVISION

Under the direct supervision of the Senior Professional Practices and Innovation Officer, the intern will be provided with close mentoring, guidance, and technical supervision. Other members of the team will also be involved in helping, guiding, and mentoring the intern. Performance planning and reviews, as well as learning and development discussions, will be carried out throughout the internship.

TRAINING COMPONENTS

Throughout their assignment WFP interns have access to an industry leading learning platform, weLearn. Depending on opportunities and availability of funds, he/she may participate in WFP workshops or seminars, as appropriate.

LEARNING ELEMENTS

Through this internship, the intern will:

Gain hands‑on experience in data analytics within the World Food Programme and internal audit.

  • Develop practical skills in data preparation, analysis, and visualization.
  • Understand how analytics supports risk management, oversight, and strategic decision‑making.
  • Strengthen professional competencies in a multicultural, international work environment.

INTERNSHIP TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP up to the maximum amount of US$1,000 per month depending on the duty station of assignment.
  • WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, VISA requests and related costs.
  • WFP will reimburse travel ticket for candidates who are nationals of developing countries and are pursuing their studies in their home country.
  • WFP will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognised institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education.
  • Sons, daughters, brothers, or sisters of current WFP employees are not eligible to apply.
