TERMS OF REFERENCE
Under the direct supervision of the Nutrition Manager (Diets and Practices) and with support from WFP maternal nutrition focal point the consultant will be responsible for the following:
- Desk Review and Industry Mapping
- Stakeholders and Private Sector Engagement and Data Collection
- State and National Validation with concerned stakeholders
Education
- Advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in: Food or agri-business, Health Economics, Development Economics, Agricultural Economics, Business Administration, Economics, Supply and Logistics, Nutrition Epidemiology, Public Health Nutrition, Food Policy, or another relevant technical field.
Work Experience
- Minimum 10 years of experience working in maternal and child nutrition policy and programming.
Language Requirements
- Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of local language is an asset.
Knowledge/Expertise/Skills
- Excellent knowledge on nutrition, food security and health system in Nigeria is mandatory.
- Knowledge and experience in nutrition, food security or health related surveys and assessments in Nigeria.
- Strong grounding in maternal nutrition, particularly the first 1,000 days, with familiarity in Balanced Energy Protein (BEP) supplementation and its role in improving maternal and infant outcomes is preferred.
- Excellent analytical skills to synthesize demand, supply, and financing insights into integrated feasibility assessments.
- Proven ability to design and implement financial feasibility studies, including costing scenarios, Return on Investment (ROI) projections, and business model evaluations relevant to nutrition interventions.
- Experience working with private sector actors, food producers, and distributors to assess supply capacity and identify opportunities for scalable BEP product development.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills to proactively establish and maintain working relations, and to promote synergies with other stakeholders.
- Ability to take initiatives and work independently and systematically.
- Excellent reporting and presentation skills, with a proven ability to work in collaboration with other experts.
- Availability in Nigeria during the assignment period, with the ability to visit office and field locations as needed.
- Demonstrable problem solving, quantitative and analytical skills; strategic and creative thinking.
- Ability to articulate and present ideas both in written presentation and orally to team as well as external audience.
Desirables
- Knowledge of the UN rules, procedures and regulations and/or working experience for the UN or other international development organization would be an asset.
- Developing political economy analysis for public health interventions and/or familiarity with maternal nutrition and BEP is considered an asset
