The purpose of this internship is to support the Programme Strategy and Coordination (PSC) Hub within UNICEF's Global Programme Division in strengthening performance management for REACH. The selected candidate will contribute to the development and documentation of workflows and business processes, management and analysis of performance data, and preparation of dashboards, metrics, visualizations, and reporting products that support oversight, accountability, and continuous improvement.
This internship offers a unique opportunity to work at the center of UNICEF's global programme support architecture, contributing to a corporate platform that connects technical expertise with programme implementation around the world. The selected candidate will gain practical experience in performance management, data analytics, business process improvement, organizational reporting, and digital transformation while working with colleagues across headquarters, regional offices, and country offices.
Key Functions and Responsibilities
- Support the development and documentation of REACH workflows, business processes, guidance notes, and standard operating procedures.
- Compile, clean, validate, organize, and maintain REACH data used for performance monitoring and reporting.
- Develop and regularly update dashboards, scorecards, graphs, and other visual products covering agreed performance indicators and operational metrics.
- Support the preparation of routine and ad hoc analyses, presentations, briefing materials, and management reports for management review and decision-making.
- Monitor data completeness, quality, timeliness, and consistency, and follow up with relevant focal points to address identified gaps.
- Assist in identifying trends, bottlenecks, and opportunities for improvement, translating data and findings into clear, practical, and actionable insights.
- Maintain organized records of methodologies, indicator definitions, data sources, dashboards, and reporting products to ensure consistency and accessibility of information.
- Collaborate with PSC Hub colleagues, REACH focal points, and other GPD teams to support performance monitoring and reporting activities.
- Contribute to the preparation of visual products, presentations, and communications materials that support performance reporting and knowledge sharing across teams.
- Undertake other related tasks required to support the PSC Hub's performance management work.
Expected Outputs
- Documented REACH workflows, process maps, and supporting guidance materials.
- An organized and regularly updated set of REACH performance data and indicator definitions.
- Regularly updated dashboards, graphs, scorecards, and key performance metrics.
- Data quality checks and concise analyses of trends, bottlenecks, and performance issues.
- Inputs to reports, presentations, and briefing materials for PSC Hub and GPD management.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
- Strong alignment to UNICEF mandate and values
- Current enrolment in, or recent completion of, a university degree in data analytics, statistics, economics, information management, public administration, international development, or a related field.
- Strong working knowledge of Excel; experience with Power BI, Tableau, or similar visualization tools is an asset.
- Ability to organize, analyze, and present quantitative and qualitative information clearly and accurately.
- Strong attention to detail, planning, and follow-through.
- Good written and verbal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment.
- Familiarity with programme management, monitoring, or UNICEF processes is an asset.
The following documents are required at onboarding stage
- Letter of verification from the college or university that the intern is currently enrolled in an undergraduate school and has completed at least two years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of an undergraduate degree (if the candidate is 18 years old, this replaces the two-year bachelor’s completion requirement); or, Graduate Degree Program (i.e., Master’s, PhD). It should also state the expected graduation date. Recent graduates are allowed until 2 years after degree completion.

- Certification of health insurance covering the full internship duration

Candidates must be legally authorized to intern in the United States for the duration of the internship or obtain a G4 visa (as applicable). CPT/OPT authorization required (if applicable) for candidates studying in the United States.
UNICEF Interns must have proof of medical insurance covering their time at the duty station.
UNICEF reserves the right to withdraw an offer, without compensation, if a visa or Proof of health insurance coverage is not obtained, or necessary medical/inoculation requirements are not met, within a reasonable period for any reason.
