Work Location

This internship is based in Geneva, full-time, part-time, hybrid, Remote and In-person. Modalities may be discussed and mutually agreed upon by the managers and the selected candidate(s).

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the overall supervision of the Chief of the Partnerships Branch (PB) in Geneva, the intern will support the Branch's strategic visibility, digital communications, and outreach efforts, with a particular focus on enhancing the Chief's external engagement and social media presence. The intern will contribute to a range of tasks, including:: Strategic Communications and Social Media:

Support the planning, development and implementation of the Chief's social media strategy, including LinkedIn and other relevant digital platforms.

Draft engaging social media content, captions, articles, and other communications products aligned with OCHA's messaging and communications priorities.

Develop content calendars and propose creative ideas to increase visibility and audience engagement.

Support the promotion of flagship campaigns, high-level events, missions, and partnership initiatives through digital channels.

Research and draft human-interest and impact stories for publication on StoryHub and other communications platforms.

Multimedia and Content Creation

Design visually engaging graphics and digital assets for social media, presentations, newsletters, and other outreach materials in line with OCHA branding guidelines.

Assist in planning, filming and editing short videos, including "piece-to-camera" recordings, event highlights, interviews and other multimedia products.

Support photography during meetings, events and field missions, including image selection, captioning, metadata preparation and archiving.

Coordinate the production, clearance and dissemination of communications and social media materials. Monitoring, Analytics and Research

Monitor the Chief's digital presence and media visibility, tracking engagement and identifying opportunities to strengthen outreach.

Analyse social media performance using analytics tools and prepare periodic reports with recommendations to improve engagement and impact.

Research emerging social media trends, digital communications tools and best practices to support continuous improvement of the Chief's communications strategy.

Maintain media and stakeholder monitoring lists and undertake background research to support communications products and outreach activities. Executive and Front Office Support

Support the Chief in day-to-day Front Office activities and coordination.

Assist in preparing briefing materials, speeches, talking points and presentations for high-level meetings and official missions.

Support the planning and coordination of meetings, events and stakeholder engagement.

Conduct background research and assist in monitoring follow-up on key actions and priorities.

Support the Chief in identifying opportunities to enhance the visibility of the Partnerships Branch, its priorities, partnerships and fundraising initiatives.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

(a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);

(b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Please note that you will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.

Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks is desirable. Previous experience in social media and in a private/ public sector setting is desirable. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English language, with a demonstrated ability in drafting social media texts and articles is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken, written, read and understand English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.

Intern Specific text

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization. Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
