Duties and Responsibilities

The global network of United Nations Information Centres (UNICs) is part of the Outreach Division of the Department of Global Communications. It is key to the Organization’s ability to reach the peoples the world and to share the United Nations story with them in their own languages. These centres, working in coordination with the UN system, reach out to the media and educational institutions, engage in partnerships with governments, local civil society organizations and the private sector, and maintain libraries and electronic information resources.

This internship is located at the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Ouagadougou and is offered for an initial period of three months, with the possibility of extension up to, but not exceeding, six months, depending on the needs of the department and availability of the intern. The incumbent is under the direct supervision of UNIC’s Director and/or the National Information Officer (NIO). The internship is UNPAID. The Interns must cover full-time working hours, five days per week, in-person.

The intern will support the CINU communication activities through visual content production, graphic design assistance and event coverage, contributing to the visibility of UN message, campaigns and initiatives. Specific tasks include:

Assist in supporting the coverage of UN events, campaigns and activities (photography, video, editing);

Assist in selecting, editing and organizing visual content in accordance with UN communication standards;

Assist in creating infographics, social media visuals, and basic graphic materials;

Assist with adapting visual content for digital platforms and social media;

Video production and editing;

Perform any other communication related tasks as required by the CINU. This internship is located at the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Ouagadougou and is offered for an initial period of three months, with the possibility of extension up to, but not exceeding, six months, depending on the needs of the department.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

(a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);

(b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). In addition, applicants should possess the following:

1. Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially, Série Adobe, Caneva, CapCut, InShot, VN, and MS Teams.

2. Skills in filming, camera work.

3. Ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts in desirable.

4. Basic knowledge of graphic design and visual content creation tools (Canva, Adobe or equivalent) is desirable.

5. Interest in photography, visual storytelling and digital communication is desirable. Applicants should have a university degree in or be studying towards a university degree in Communication, Graphic Design, or Multimedia with a demonstrated interest in visual communication, digital content or media production.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the internship advertised, fluency in French is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable.
