Org. Setting and Reporting

The temporary position is located within the United Nations Support Office in Haiti (UNSOH). Pursuant to Security Council resolution 2793 (2025), UNSOH has been mandated to provide support; primarily to the Gang Suppression Force (GSF), the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH), the Haitian National Police (HNP), and the Haitian Armed Forces in the context of any joint operations with the GSF. Additionally, UNSOH is tasked with delivering technical assistance to the Organization of American States (OAS).

The incumbent provides support to UN Staff in the field and reports to the Workshop Supervisor or his/her designate, under the Chief Transport Officer. The temporary position is based in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and is located within the Transport Section under Service Delivery Management Pillar of the Mission Support Division.

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority the vehicle technician assistance will perform:

Services and repairs vehicles in accordance with vehicle manufacture standards and schedules.

Ensures that all relevant safety procedures have been followed when repairing and fitting replacement parts.

Conducts vehicle inspections such as pre-summer and winter inspections on UN owned vehicles assigned to various units.

Produces reports to document all servicing and repairs.

Assists in identifying, diagnosing and rectifying various faults.

Assists with the identification of required parts.

Performs any other tasks as required.

Performs repairs on vehicle electrical, air-conditioning, suspension, braking, air and hydraulic systems, within delegated technical responsibilities.

Uses appropriate diagnostic tools/equipment to assist in diagnosing vehicle faults and identifying required parts.

Carries out road tests and supports quality control/quality assurance checks following maintenance and repair work.

Assists with vehicle recovery services and with monitoring the quality of mechanical, electrical and body repair work completed by service contractors

Trains other colleagues mechanics in the proper maintenance of equipment.

Reports on maintenance programme and status of repairs to relevant Team Leaders.

Provides consultation and technical advice to staff within the Production Unit

Preforms repairs on Electrical, Air conditioning, Suspension, Braking, Air and Hydraulic systems

Assists in monitoring the quality of body, electrical, and mechanical repair work completed by service contractors.

Diagnoses vehicle faults using diagnostic tool/machine

Carries out Road Tests and Quality Control/assurance and any other duties assigned by the supervisor or by the Head of Unit/Section

Preforms Vehicle recovery services

Perform other task as required

Education

High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Job - Specific Qualification

A valid driver's license for "C" category is required (a copy of a valid driving license must be attached). Valid driver's licenses for light and heavy (bus and truck) vehicles, category D, E is desirable. (a copy of valid driving license should be attached) A technical or vocational certificate as Motor vehicle Technician (National Certificate or equivalent) is desirable. (A copy of the certificate should be attached)

Work Experience

At least five (05) years of professional in transport operations management is required. Experience in using spare parts catalogs, picking up the part numbers, and placing spare parts orders is desirable Experience as an auto mechanic is desirable. Knowledge of guidelines and procedures relating to the safe operation of workshop equipment is desirable Experience working in international organizations is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this job opening, English and French are required. Special Notice

This temporary job opening is available for three months and is being advertised for advance planning purposes pending formal approval of the relevant funding and staffing structures. An appointment may be terminated, or post level adjusted in accordance with the Staff Rules for such reasons as abolition of post or reduction of staff or committee funding approvals, for example in the event that the funding for the post is not approved or the mandate of the mission is not extended. The selected candidate will be expected to temporarily deploy for three months.

If the selected candidate is a staff member from the United Nations Secretariat, the selection will be administered as a temporary assignment. While this temporary assignment may provide the successful applicant with an opportunity to gain new work experience, the selection for this position is for a limited period and has no bearing on the future incumbency of the post. United Nations Considerations
