Purpose of Activity/Assignment: Support UNICEF’s regional data tech portfolio in advancing the priorities of the Frontier Data Network (FDN) work plan with LACRO. This includes: (a) strengthening data expertise rooted in local realities; (b) expanding the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and geospatial intelligence; and (c) fostering collaborative innovation ecosystems across governments, academia, civil society, and technology partners, d) Coordinate the design, planning, implementation support, documentation, and delivery tracking of selected AI and frontier data tech use cases, working with technical teams in LACRO, Country Offices, DID, OSE, and external partners.
Purpose of this consultancy: Under the supervision of the Data and Monitoring Manager and in close collaboration with the Frontier Data Network team in the AI Office, Digital Impact Division(DID), HQ, the Project Manager, AI and Frontier Data Tech Initiatives will support UNICEF’s regional data portfolio with a strong focus on coordinating and advancing the priorities of the Frontier Data Network (FDN). This includes: (a) strengthening data expertise rooted in local realities; (b) expanding the use of AI and geospatial intelligence; and (c) fostering collaborative innovation ecosystems across governments, academia, civil society, and technology partners.
This role plays a central part in advancing UNICEF’s AI Strategy and its vision to responsibly leverage artificial intelligence for program impact, operational efficiency, and child rights advocacy.
The FDN LAC work plan centers on three high-impact use cases demonstrating how frontier data technologies can improve outcomes for children and adolescents in Latin America and the Caribbean: Ahead of the Storm: Data readiness and disaster resilience through AI and geospatial intelligence; Children on the Move: Data tech innovation for migration; AI Across the Data Lifecycle: Responsible AI integration from data collection to insight generation and Child center AI.
In this capacity, the incumbent will support the establishment of a Regional Network for Frontier Data Collaboration, support the development and finalization of the LAC Data for Children Portal, and contribute to other innovative data products that involve AI solutions, in collaboration with DID with the purpose of advancing regional priorities.
